History of LSGI
Narippatta Grama Panchayat is a Village Panchayat situated in the Kunnummal Block of the Vatakara Taluk in the Kozhikode District.
- Area: The area of the Panchayat is $50.63$ square kilometers.
- Boundaries:
- North: Vaanimal and Thondarnadu (Wayanad) Panchayats.
- South: Kunnummal, Kaayakkodi, and Naadapuram Panchayats.
- East: Thondarnadu (Wayanad), Kaavilumpara, and Kaayakkodi Panchayats.
- West: Vaanimal and Naadapuram Panchayats.
- Formation: The village was formed as a Panchayat in 1955.
- First Election: The first election was conducted by recording votes through a show of hands.
- First President: A. P. Kunhikkannan.
📜 Historical and Cultural Significance
- Settlement: The former glory of Thinoor in Narippatta was maintained by Namboothiri families with the lineage of Thaliparamba Grama, who had migrated from the Chirakkal region of today's Kannur district.
- Temple: The local temple, dedicated to the deity Thinamoorappa, became known over time as one of the Shankaranarayana temples, which are extremely rare in Kerala.
- Namboothiri Tradition: The Namboothiri families here belong to the Yajurveda branch. Some of the Namboothiri houses (Illams) still preserve extremely rare palm-leaf manuscripts.
- Kadathanadan Heritage: The Kadathanadu villages have their own unique heritage. Kalaripayattu and Kolkklari developed equally here. A physical and mental rhythm was imbibed by all under the tutelage of the Kalari masters.
